now we are six

Two weeks ago Jack celebrated his sixth birthday with a wonderful party. Friends came from preschool, from kindergarten, and from life. We talked. Laughed. Ate hot dogs and ice cream cake. After the party Jack opened endless gifts, each one calculated to delight him. Over the past few weeks I've coached Jack in the art of writing thank you notes. He dictates and I write, then he adds his own handwritten "Thank you" and his name, plus some decorations. This is my favorite, written to the older couple who live next door, whose children are long since grown and have children of their own. Dear A and K, Thank you for giving me the car and the glow stick. I put little guys in the car and drive them. Thanks for giving me the car and thanks for coming to my party. I'm so proud of my little man. As our experience extends beyond our special preschool community I see daily what a great start Jack's had, how kind he is by nature, how smart. Now he's six years old.
