been making stuff

This headhugger was supposed to be for me. I've got to stop plunging hell-for-leather into projects without first testing gauge. I can get it on but any extended wear would give me a major headache. I'm trying for an easy mesh skully to wear during the summer but many of the patterns I've found are beyond my current crochet capability. I'm trying this pattern again, with a different yarn, an additional increase round, and several more repeats.

I've found a simple recipe for pizza dough that makes the best pizza for boys (and mommies, but I like mine with mushrooms, onions, black olives, basil, a little goat cheese, and some pine nuts).

This Last Supper/Life of Christ puzzle had 750 pieces and the edge pieces were indistinguishable from the interior pieces. Took me forever to complete, and kept us from eating in the dining room for about three weeks.

I've been making bottle cap earrings...

...and custom cards to put them on. I've opened an etsy shop: thriftyserendipity on etsy. We'll see how that goes.

This is the second Capri Sun purse I made. The first went to Bin and Brazey, to tote snacks around in.

This one went to Olivia for her birthday, along with these fuzzy flip flops I crocheted. I stuffed the bag with the flip flops, some girly headbands, and a few Bonne Bell lip glosses and nail polishes. It was a hit, with Olivia and many of the moms, who claim they'd like bags for themselves. Maybe I'll make some for the etsy shop, too.

The summer may be half over, but I've been using some of my time wisely.

I guess you have been making stuff...and really great stuff at that. The Madonna earrings are beauties. I'll have to visit your Etsy shop.

Wow! I am impressed. Since I got back from Illinois and the heat came I have been dragging my feet on the creativity. Forced myself to do some sewing today. Love the things you made. Really like the capri sun bag.

You are so incredible!
Love all of it!!!
The Capri bags are brilliant, the flip-flops adorable, Etsy products are perfect (though you could probably get more for them like Gnightgirl says)... You wow me.

wedding gift

On Saturday Dave's cousin Traci is getting married. At the last minute we decided to fly to Ames for the wedding and to see everyone who will be in attendance there. At the last minute, I decided to crochet a throw as a wedding gift. I just finished. The colors in this first picture are true; the other two pictures were taken with flash so the colors look brighter than they really are. I started last Monday night with 7 skeins of Lion Brand Chenille Thick and Quick in Periwinkle. It's 72 single crochet in the back loop only for as many rows as you want. Then single crochet around in a contrasting color. I chose Wine. I bought the yarn at Big Lots for half the retail price. It's long and skinny but very texturally appealing. Though all skeins were of the same dye lot, you can see that the top and bottom skein are definitely different, not so much in color as in texture. It's pure dumb luck that they ended up at the top and bottom. It's not perfect, but neither is mar
Jack doesn't have many "activities." I don't relish the thought of driving him to soccer, piano lessons, gymnastics, tae kwon do, KidzArt, swim team, T-ball, so on, and so forth. Not to say that I don't recognize the value of these activities, but I witness firsthand the toll a full schedule takes on little ones. On Monday nights Jack and his cousin participate in Young Champions of America Karate, which is more about learning discipline, respect, and self defense than it is about martial arts. Recently we've picked up a new activity, which is also about learning discipline, respect, and creativity: Tucson Lego Club. He was invited to join by Nathan and Lucas, friends from church who also attended the preschool a few years ahead of Jack. Here he sits between them, at a table surrounded by 6 other boys, each of them building a lavish Lego creation. Members spend an hour building and fraternizing, sometimes more fraternizing than building, but at the end of the
