been making stuff

This headhugger was supposed to be for me. I've got to stop plunging hell-for-leather into projects without first testing gauge. I can get it on but any extended wear would give me a major headache. I'm trying for an easy mesh skully to wear during the summer but many of the patterns I've found are beyond my current crochet capability. I'm trying this pattern again, with a different yarn, an additional increase round, and several more repeats.

I've found a simple recipe for pizza dough that makes the best pizza for boys (and mommies, but I like mine with mushrooms, onions, black olives, basil, a little goat cheese, and some pine nuts).

This Last Supper/Life of Christ puzzle had 750 pieces and the edge pieces were indistinguishable from the interior pieces. Took me forever to complete, and kept us from eating in the dining room for about three weeks.

I've been making bottle cap earrings...

...and custom cards to put them on. I've opened an etsy shop: thriftyserendipity on etsy. We'll see how that goes.

This is the second Capri Sun purse I made. The first went to Bin and Brazey, to tote snacks around in.

This one went to Olivia for her birthday, along with these fuzzy flip flops I crocheted. I stuffed the bag with the flip flops, some girly headbands, and a few Bonne Bell lip glosses and nail polishes. It was a hit, with Olivia and many of the moms, who claim they'd like bags for themselves. Maybe I'll make some for the etsy shop, too.

The summer may be half over, but I've been using some of my time wisely.

I guess you have been making stuff...and really great stuff at that. The Madonna earrings are beauties. I'll have to visit your Etsy shop.

Wow! I am impressed. Since I got back from Illinois and the heat came I have been dragging my feet on the creativity. Forced myself to do some sewing today. Love the things you made. Really like the capri sun bag.

You are so incredible!
Love all of it!!!
The Capri bags are brilliant, the flip-flops adorable, Etsy products are perfect (though you could probably get more for them like Gnightgirl says)... You wow me.

the more things change...

So many reasons it's been a long time since we took the boys out thrift store shopping. Yesterday, Tuesday, both of us had a full day off to spend as we pleased.

First we ate at Chaffin's Diner. They seated us in the less-dinery back room, which ended up being a good thing because we sat directly beneath a fan and didn't notice so much the heat. E drank decaff coffee with cream. I didn't notice sugar. Decaff, like his Uncle D. Coffee, like his Mimi.

We hit Shop for a Cause first, where the boys found nothing and subsequently sulked.

Next we pulled into the Humane Society Thrift Store, which I haven't visited in a long time. Historically I haven't found anything there.

Today we hit the treasure jackpot.

A $2 Ziploc bag containing the comprehensive plastic presidential contingent from Washington through Eisenhower.

Of course E had them ordered in a matter of moments.

Finally we escaped the store with a trove of treasures (more than I've found in one place in …

paleo pizza

You cook the crust first, at 425 or 450. I used a bag of Trader Joe's grilled cauliflower riced in the Cuisinart with a bag of Trader Joe's shredded mozzarella and as many eggs as needed to hold it together. Herbed it with some dried basil, garlic powder, and dried oregano.

Topped with a pound of browned hot Italian sausage and some shredded parmesan.

Bake til browned.

Scarfed it down, me and my hunny.
