all this for $7.83!!

After school on Friday Jack and I went to 22nd Street Thrift Store for our weekly (sometimes twice weekly) fix. I had the 50% off coupon from the Tucson Shopper (and I have another, good 'til Wednesday!) so without it we would have paid twice as much for what we got, which still would have been a good deal. But $7.83 for this small load of goodies...neighbor, that's a ganga.

First find: a goodie bag of Playmobil bits and pieces, including one genuine Playmobil horse and three knock-offs (rather interesting in their stylized appearance), five guys, a few bushes, and a handful of accoutrement, including two sets of keys. Jack was practically in orbit.

Bought a strange set of 4 flat, die-cut rubber shark caricatures, each about 12 inches across, for Evan. Have no idea what they're for, but I feed Evan's shark frenzy whenever I can.

I found a beautiful pair of black Kenneth Cole boots for $29.99, which would have been about $15.00 with my coupon. But the right one was too narrow for my bunion and I couldn't even try on the left because of my sprained ankle. I reluctantly put them back on the shelf. Oh, they were sweet.

Five children's books, which I buy for myself as well as Jack, including a nice hardcover of Kevin Henkes' Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse, a nice hardcover of Lois Lenski's Cowboy Small, a Scooby Doo, a Richard Scarry, and a Lego Knight's Kingdom. I'm taking one class at the U of A---Children's Literature in the Classroom---and because of that I'm buying more kids' books than usual. Especially when I can pick up a $16.00 hardcover for 99 cents.

I love thrifting.

the more things change...

So many reasons it's been a long time since we took the boys out thrift store shopping. Yesterday, Tuesday, both of us had a full day off to spend as we pleased.

First we ate at Chaffin's Diner. They seated us in the less-dinery back room, which ended up being a good thing because we sat directly beneath a fan and didn't notice so much the heat. E drank decaff coffee with cream. I didn't notice sugar. Decaff, like his Uncle D. Coffee, like his Mimi.

We hit Shop for a Cause first, where the boys found nothing and subsequently sulked.

Next we pulled into the Humane Society Thrift Store, which I haven't visited in a long time. Historically I haven't found anything there.

Today we hit the treasure jackpot.

A $2 Ziploc bag containing the comprehensive plastic presidential contingent from Washington through Eisenhower.

Of course E had them ordered in a matter of moments.

Finally we escaped the store with a trove of treasures (more than I've found in one place in …

You cook the crust first, at 425 or 450. I used a bag of Trader Joe's grilled cauliflower riced in the Cuisinart with a bag of Trader Joe's shredded mozzarella and as many eggs as needed to hold it together. Herbed it with some dried basil, garlic powder, and dried oregano.

Topped with a pound of browned hot Italian sausage and some shredded parmesan.

Bake til browned.

Scarfed it down, me and my hunny.
